Friends of Dorset's Rights of Way promotes the responsible and sustainable use of greenlanes in Dorset for all users.

Greenlanes are unsurfaced tracks that can be used by everyone. They are mostly old roads that have never been surfaced. Now their main users are recreational, from walkers to cyclists, horse riders and vehicles.

Only 5% of public rights of way in the UK are greenlanes. (Source: Countryside Agency) Recreational vehicles are not responsible for the majority of damage to greenlanes. (Source: University of Staffordshire) To maintain the greenlane network we clear overgrown greenlanes and repair damaged track surfaces. Many greenlanes are not currently recognised as such on the definitive map and we work to correct this. This webiste promotes the legal use of greenlanes by providing a database of all Dorset's greenlanes.
